The European Union (EU)

Funding Partner

The EU and Latin America and the Caribbean have enjoyed privileged relations since the first bi-regional Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in 1999, which established a strategic partnership. They are natural partners linked by strong historical, cultural and economic ties. They co-operate closely at international level and maintain an intensive political dialogue at all levels.

The main responsibilities of the Delegation can be summarized as follows:

  • Representation of the European Union to Trinidad and Tobago
  • Follow up of bilateral relations in the areas of political, economic, trade and development cooperation, including through a formal political dialogue
  • Follow up of EU policies in all sectors
  • Promotion of and defending the values and interests of the EU
  • Collaboration with the EU Member States’ Embassies and coordination in the fields of EU competences
  • Carrying out Common Foreign and Security Policy demarches
  • Reporting back to Headquarters on all matters of interest for EU policies
  • Ensuring the multi-annual programming of development aid and the management of development programs and projects
  • Carrying out press and public diplomacy activities in pursuit of all the above.

The organisation operates on a platform that strengthens inclusion, encourages consultation and seeks to eliminate discrimination. The strategies most frequently used include creative education methods, reducing barriers to essential services and the creation or improvement of structures that aid the development process.

Rotary Club of St. Augustine

The Rotary Club of St. Augustine was formed in January 1967 with the objective of encouraging and fostering the ideal of service as a worthy enterprise.  Rotarians ask these questions to ensure that an action meets their ethical standards: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build good will and better friendships? And, will it be beneficial to all concerned?
